What do you do when you have to share the day with people NOT ON YOUR FAVORITE LIST?

I want to stress that in every situation there is usually more than one choice

If you think the pressure of spending a day with someone you don’t like or respect will be too much for you; don’t go!

If you absolutely have to go and you see no other option, then here are some strategies, and techniques you can use during the day to decrease your stress.

A)     Look your best. If you look good and feel good about yourself then it becomes harder for the trouble maker to infiltrate into your space.

B)     Pace yourself. Do one thing at a time and concentrate on that one thing while you are doing it.

C)    If anxiety creeps in, retire to the bathroom or outside to take a break. Deep breathing helps to relieve stress fast. Ten deep slow breathes can change your mood and will refresh your strength to deal with the menace.

D)    This is my least favorite because it is not authentically honest, but it works, FAKE IT! Be cordial. Exchange usual niceties. Otherwise, avoid conversation.

E)     If you are verbally attacked, say nothing, and excuse yourself from the gathering.

F)      If you are physically attacked, call the police. Assault is a crime.

G)   Have a provision of rescue! If you are about to go in the lion’s den, always have a way to get out of there! Drive yourself, or make sure a bus stop is close, call a cab, and so on. You have the choice to leave at any time. Unfortunately, this freedom does not include children. Protect the children from hateful people.

H)    Ask for help.

I)        Play with the children.

J)       Teach the children by example.

K)     Watch the game.

L)      Help with the dishes.

M)   Listen attentively to your loved one’s stories. Participate actively in the conversation.

N)    Focus on the good stuff instead of the bad stuff.

O)    Stay in the moment.

P)     You get the idea…..

We make choices everyday. If fact we are the sum total of the choices we have made in the past. My point is that we have choices. If you can not see the choice; look harder!

Think enough of yourself to disallow anyone’s mistreatment of you.

Good luck! Be grateful for your blessings and focus on them instead of the scalawag!
